READ THE EVIDENCE IN CONTEXT

Is a longevity claim based on a cellular marker, average survival or an outcome demonstrated in people?

What is it?

Epithalon, also called Epitalon, is the short synthetic peptide Ala–Glu–Asp–Gly. It is discussed in experimental research on telomeres and cellular aging.

What has been studied?

A 2003 paper reported telomerase activity and telomere changes in cultured human fetal fibroblasts. A separate mouse experiment found no change in mean lifespan, although some late-survival measures differed. These are different endpoints in different experimental models. [sources]

What the evidence does not establish

Human cells grown in a laboratory are not a human clinical trial. Telomere measurements do not establish a longer or healthier human lifespan. The distinction between mean lifespan and the last surviving animals matters when reading longevity headlines. [sources]
